Library Resources & Facilities

Below you will find information on the various resources available in the library. Please feel free to speak to the librarian for help with any of the resources, either in person or by emailing

  • Reference material (dictionaries, grammar, vocabulary builders).
  • Textbooks with audio-visual material

  • A large stock of foreign language and English films, documentaries and video textbooks (list on Excel)
  • Modern Languages Final examinations since 1978 (Listening Comprehension, Discourse Topics). A selection is available on WebLearn
  • The Eurecap collection (same language subtitles for French, Italian, German and Spanish)
  • Language for Specific Purposes (language taught at the Centre)

  • Italian reference books in memory of Clara Florio Cooper
  • Easy to Difficult levels readers in all languages taught at the Centre
  • Graphic Novels (English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Spanish)
  • Linguistic books on languages of India, donation from the Oriental Institute
  • The Lambda Library for French and German literature
  • Russian classics films on DVD, a donation
  • The Sign Language collection

  • The CALL (Computer Assisted Language Learning) collection: CD-ROMS and softwares. A list of those available can be found here.
  • Reading room and individual booths
  • Computers in the open-access area (first floor) and in study booths (second floor) with networked softwares
  • Video/CD/TV players in booths with terrestrial/satellite reception in 16 languages (second floor)
  • Photocopying (second floor)
  • Meeting room with big screen television and computer
  • Drinks machine and water dispensers are available on the ground floor. Two other water dispensers are available on the first and second floors.

There is a photocopying service available for published material, provided the publisher has signed an agreement with the CLA. Users must fill in a Photocopy Declaration Form and give it to Library staff. Photocopies are 5p per A4 sheet, 10p per A4 double-sided sheet. Receipts can be given.

The Language Centre has a wi-fi connection. There are also networked computers on which users can find some learning programs. Some programs run on a single-user license and the CD-ROM is available from the Librarian or on the shelves. Others have a multi-user license and are already installed on the computers. Please note that it is not possible to print from these computers.
