Information for students who need to apply for a Tier 4 visa
If you have an unconditional offer for your main degree course at Oxford, and wish to take the pre-sessional course, your department can issue you with a combined CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies) for your student visa application to cover the period of both courses. Any of the English language tests or criteria used for Oxford University admission purposes are acceptable for the pre-sessional course. You will also have to meet other conditions earlier for a combined CAS, e.g. financial conditions, and apply earlier for ATAS and Tuberculosis (TB) certificates if applicable.
However, if your main Oxford degree course offer is conditional on retaking IELTS or another recognised test, or the degree course you are going on to after the pre-sessional is not at Oxford, we can only issue you with a CAS for the pre-sessional course. You will also have to provide a Secure English Language Test result such as UKVI IELTS (SELT). Another option is to come to the UK on the Short Term Student visa route for the pre-sessional course, which does not require a language test. However, you cannot switch from this type of visa to Tier 4 within the UK, so you would need to return to your home country after the pre-sessional course and apply for a Tier 4 visa.
University card (ID)
If you are taking a graduate course at Oxford you need to ask your department to send you the University card form so your card (ID) is ready for you when you arrive in Oxford to attend the pre-sessional course. If you are an undergraduate student you will need to ask your college for the form.
