Academic English Tailored Courses

Tailored Courses are targeted interventions where we work with subject experts in departments and colleges to develop the skills students need to successfully complete specific written and spoken tasks on their degree courses (exam writing, reports, theses, presentations etc.). This context embedded learning allows for a more specific academic focus according to genre and discipline at the point students need it most. Evidence from across the Higher Education sector supporting this kind of approach has become increasingly compelling.

The Language Centre offers tailored courses for undergraduate and postgraduate students from Oxford colleges, divisions and departments. For the academic year 2023/24 we are running the following Academic English Tailored courses:

A tailor-made course is a cost-effective and inclusive way to offer quality language teaching to students in your department, faculty or college. Our academic English tutors will work with you to create a course which can be held on your own premises for maximum convenience. Students will benefit from studying with their peers, and our tutors can provide material directly relevant to their course of study.

The Language Centre will invoice the sponsoring department, faculty or college for the cost of the course shortly before or at the start of the course. Students from the department/faculty/college attending the course do not pay a course fee to the Language Centre.
