Language Centre to integrate with the Department for Continuing Education

We are pleased to announce that the University has approved plans for the Language Centre to integrate with the Department for Continuing Education.

The Language Centre is currently part of the Academic Administration Division within the University Administration and Services.

The Department for Continuing Education provides non-award bearing language courses, as part of its Languages and Cultural Studies offer, with a total of 14 languages taught between the two departments.

In Trinity term 2023, the University’s Education Committee endorsed a proposal to integrate the two departments, and to develop the vision for non-degree academic English and language teaching and Cultural Studies in support of the University’s mission.

The integration provides an opportunity to build on the strengths of both units, and support language learning across the University in the long term.

The formal integration will take place on 1 August 2024.

We do not expect any changes to the Language Centre or Continuing Education courses or library provision until after the integration has taken place.

You can find more information about this announcement on the Staff Gateway, and further details about the integration will follow over the course of the next year.

If you have any questions at this stage, please contact the Language Centre team.
